After watching Evangelion, I am going to tackle for myself one of the most controversial questions the series ever produced (and that is saying something). THIS CONTAINS MAJOR SPOILERS OR EVANGELION!!!
I'm talking about Kaworu Nagisa's sexuality, as well as Shinji's.
Ok, let me start off by saying I AM NOT a yaoi fangirl. I have no problem with it, I've read a bit of soft yaoi (no hard core stuff for me), I like shonen-ai fluffy stuff, and have no problem with yaoi pairings AS LONG AS THEY ARE CANON! And I have to say I really like the Shinji X Kaworu pairing personally.
But are they actually gay in canon? That, I think no one except Hideaki Anno (and maybe not even him) can answer. (Then again, Rebuild is totally different, so we'll see where that goes.)
I am of the personal opinion that Kaworu is gay and Shinji is gay or (more likely) bi. (If you look at the original series, the only real proof (urgh, the masturbating...) he likes Asuka is in End of Evangelion, not the original series. (I remember the swimsuit scene, but just about anyone would blush in that situation in embarrassment, and she initiated the single kiss they shared) I do not mind Asuka X Shinji, but I think it is more one sided, in that Asuka loves Shinji, but he doesn't necessarily love her, at least as not as strongly as he loves Kaworu. However, I am NOT a fan of the Shinji X Rei pairing. It's just squick on too many levels (And hell, I love Angel Sanctuary!), and neither of them seem attracted to each other AT ALL.
As for the argument that Kaworu is an Angel and thus has no sexuality, I will cite many other sources and my own experience in saying that Evangelion's Angels have NO RELATION whatsoever to angels as they are depicted in the Bible. Kaworu also obviously appears in a male human body, so I think any argument for an androgynous Kaworu is pretty much void.
Many of my points and others that I don't wish to plagiarize are explained better on this beautiful Kaworu-themed website here: http://kaworu.com/kaworu/controvers y/
Ok. I'm done. I'll try and update my fanfics over the weekend and possibly write a one-shot about Kaworu as well.
I also bought the Kaworu book that came out in Japan a year or two ago, and it should be coming soon. I'm excited!

So, I'm bored. I should be either working on my fanfics or my homework, but I say screw that. Instead, I bring this list of the top five anime I consider to be the best (from a critical standpoint) anime ever made. (NOT MANGA OR MOVIES! Practically all would be Tezuka and Miyazaki if I were doing that. Princess Mononoke FTW!)
POSSIBLE SPOILERS, though I tried.
Here we go!
5. Fullmetal Alchemist (2003): Actually, FMA is not of my favorites, but I cannot deny how (the original anime) deep, thought-provoking, and striking it is. Despite the fact that the story diverges completely from its source material, FMA manages to hold its ground plot and character-wise and I believe it will for a long time, even beyond Brotherhood. An intriguing and heartbreaking story, characters that become REAL PEOPLE, and awesome action sequences and alchemy are just a few of the things that make FMA not only memorable but a show that will stay with you and NEVER go away. And hell, I even like the manga BETTER!
4. Witch Hunter Robin (2002): I admit, I am being a little biased on this one. I find it to be, besides the occasional slowness of the plot, a flawlessly crafted anime. Character development (Especially on the part of Robin, though almost every supporting character gets a decent share), animation (Despite not being a Production I.G. work, gasp!), and plot are what I cite the most while praising WHR, but the music is nothing to sneeze at either. Admittedly, it took me two-three viewings to get it completely, and I still don't like the tiny epilogue thrown on to the last episode. Just stop watching before the credits and you'll be fine. One of the things I find the best about WHR is the plot scheme: the first half of the series is episodic, while the second half hits viewers mercilessly with one of the finest crafted (hah, pun) plots in anime. Overall, not a show for everyone, but one of the best nonetheless.
3. Ghost in the Shell (1995 film): If you know me at all, then you should be aware that Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex is my personal favorite anime ever. But looking at the significance of anime over history, I think none compare to what Mamoru Oshii's masterpiece brought to the table. The animation, for 1995, is flawless and basically revolutionized the art. Ghost in the Shell can also take credit for helping to make anime popular not just in the US, but around the world. The story is compelling, and not impossible to understand. (Unlike some other GITS media) Also, Kenji Kawai's score kicks ass. That, and it has the Puppet Master. Come on. I dare you to try and kick his ass. You WILL die.
2. Cowboy Bebop (1998): This anime stands as one of the greatest anime of all time for good reason. Which is odd, given how it has a very loose, episodic plot that literally plays out over the course of five episodes (5, 12-13, and 25-26) out of twenty-six. One of the things I like best about Bebop is Julia, who is THE driving force of the entire plot, and she doesn't show up in person until the very end of episode 25. That alone should earn her points. Yoko Kanno's musical score, unsurprisingly, is pure awesomeness incarnated. The animation may look rudimentary compared to newer anime, but was near-flawless when it was first released in 1998. The characters, however, are the true drivers of this show, which will make it stand out forever.
1. Neon Genesis Evangelion (1995): I yield. I only recently got around to watching Eva, and I agree that it truly has no equal or ever will. The character development is flawless, human, and dark as hell; the animation is descent (When Gainax had money, that is. *Cough*), and the plot, while confusing, is extremely original, something notoriously hard to do. On the surface,it appears to be nothing more than another giant fighting robot anime, but ooooooooooh wait, do you have another thing coming... I'm one of the rare fans that still likes Shinji, so... yeah. Eva also earns points for being the first anime in which I support a "non-canon" yaoi pairing, that of course being Shinji X Kaworu. Hell, I'm not even a psychology major and I'd love to write my graduation thesis on THIS SHOW ALONE! I admittedly like the ending of the original series specifically because there are at least three major ways (and tons of others) of interpreting it. I will not deny that End of Evangelion was one of the most epic things ever made, if not depressing and full of WTFery at the end. I just watched the first Rebuild movie too, and I am so excited to see how this alternate interpretation ends. If this show had a downfall, it would be the financial problems of Gainax that impeded on the animation and the over-the-top franchise it spawned.
So there you have it! Feel free to post a response with your own top five! (From a critical standpoint, please.)

So, I finished Neon Genesis Evangelion this morning. I'll watch End of Evangelion and Rebuild as soon as I get the time.
Here's the odd part. Not only did I understand the ending on the first viewing, I still like Shinji. Apparently, that means I am the most insane person to ever set foot in all otakudom. Yay for me...?

I am going to do it. I am going to embark on an endeavor that no human being has survived with their mind and sanity in tact. An epic quest so cruel it has been called "suicide fuel."
I am going to watch Neon Genesis Evangelion. The original anime series, The End of Evangelion, and the Rebuild of Evangelion.
To be honest, I tried to get through it before, but my friend's DVDs were scratched and I never made it through. And then when I get done I'm going to do my own evaluation on Kaworu and Shinji's relationship. (Hell, I'm not even a yaoi fangirl and they look like a couple to me... But I could be wrong.)
So ends my streak of happier anime that I've been watching since coming to college...
To make a long story short, I am going to get mindfucked.
On a happier note, I got my SoulSilver on Friday. I'm plowing my way through this thing! I must say I am not impressed with the new Scientist sprite. I like D/P/Pt's better. The other beef I have with is with Kotone. WHERE IN ALL THE HELLS IS CRYS!?!?!?!?! Other than that, this game is EPIC WIN and I CANNOT WAIT for an American release.

So, I made a new AMV after all this time. It's not as great as I'd like it to be, but I think I matched the lyrics up really well.

So here's the AMV! Go watch and comment!
